One of my favorite things about Twitter is the chance to see truly angry people sum up their angst in concise bursts of text. These were a couple of my favorites from today:

Yep, Del.icio.us is dead, and Yahoo! is in a death spiral. I have a feeling Warren’s not the only user harboring those feelings toward them. Let’s not forget that along with Delicious, they’re also killing Altavista and a handful of other smaller operations. On that note…

And then there’s our old friends, the executives at SyFy. Once upon a time, they were well-liked; they were, after all, the people who were running a network that played nothing but sci-fi shows all day, and had successfully pulled off a show like Battlestar Galactica (even after people said it could never be remade). Well, they’re not well-liked anymore, and I think it’s pretty much been decided that they’re a bunch of money-muppets. and I liked this simple, yet historical view of the situation:

Also — a Facebook page is not going to save Stargate Universe from cancellation. Sorry.

Why the hell don’t Yahoo open-source del.icio.us ? Surely someone would pick it up and make it publicly available ? From my use of it, it didn’t seem to be much more than a static site with a database behind it. Not exactly rocket science.
I’m surprised too, but then I wonder if they’re just hoping to salvage the domain name itself just to make some money. Delicious.com itself has to be worth a cool half-million to the right food company or restaurant. All I know is that Yahoo! lost the ability to cope with the modern Internet about a decade ago, and now it’s just sad.
